I stumbled across a link the other day to this site: www.globalrichlist.com. A bit leery about entering info, I gave in. The site uses your income to tell you if you are the wealthiest person on earth, the poorest, or somewhere in between.
If you make more than $48,000 a year, according to this site, you are in the top 1% of the wealthiest people on earth! That means that there are nearly 7 billion people who have less than you do. The amount of money that we spend on a fast food order could impact lives forever.
The site reminded me of these few verses:
"Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life." -1 Timothy 6: 17-19
Too many folks these days come in and tell me how horrible our economy is, how broke upside down Wall Street is, and how broke they feel. The economy has had a rough go, and there is no denying the lack of accountability on Wall Street but no matter how much you make in a year, you have amazing capacity to help those around you. Gifts of cash are just a start. You have experience, wisdom, relationships… Use these and take hold of life that is truly life!
